Reeth

and Swaledale

Steeped in rich lead mining history, Reeth is one of the most picturesque villages in the Northern Dales, surrounded by rolling hills and heather moorland. The village is also a hub for local crafters and artisans, and is a great place to stop for a bite to eat if you’re out and about walking some of the amazing trails of Swaledale.

    Pay a visit to some of the many local craft sellers:

  • Fleece - a not-for-profit gallery and shop, selling the wares of over 20 artists from throughout the Dales

  • Reeth Orchard - a seculded orchard garden oasis and gallery

  • Graculus Sculptures - unique handmade sculptures made from recycled metal, these pieces are a perfect blend of joy and absurdity

  • Scenicview - a collection of works from local photographers

Highlights

  • Fremington Edge (6 Miles) - start off at the valley bottom in the quaint village of Reeth, taking a fairly steep climb to the ridgeline, Fremington Edge is the perfect vantage point to take in the panoramic views of Lower Swaledale below.

  • River Swale Loop via Grinton (3 Miles) - walk along the banks of the River Swale and cross over the striking Reeth swing bridge.

  • Arkengarthdale Loop (2 Miles) - in the heart of Arkengarthdale you’ll feel as though you’re deep in the Dales on this stunning riverside loop. Starting at the CB Inn this pub is great for pre- or post- walk refreshments.

  • Upper Swaledale Circular (6 Miles) - Take in the breath-taking views of Swaledale as you climb up the valley from Muker to Keld; with picturesque waterfalls at the halfway point and evidence of old mining works on the far side of the valley.

  • Dales Bike Centre Cafe - perfect for a post-walk pick me up with an extensive range of home-baked cakes and treats

  • Reeth Ice Cream Parlour - a family run business serving delightful, locally produced Brymor Ice Cream as well as a range of hot drinks

  • Mrs Pumphrey’s Tea Room and Antiques - a quirky tea room on the road into Reeth where you can also peruse a range of antiques. On a sunny day sit outside surrounded by wonderful scenery

  • CB Inn - slightly further up Arkengarthdale this pub is set in striking surroundings, serving a range of hearty meals, with an especially good Sunday roast
